1. Who is responsible for your data?
UniSimpler is an independent educational technology service. For privacy questions or requests, email unisimpler@gmail.com.
2. What information do we process?
- Account information: if you use Google sign-in, we receive your verified email address, display name, account identifier, and authentication information needed to keep you signed in.
- Your study material: the text, images, handwriting, audio, or video you choose to upload, plus questions and attachments you send to the tutor.
- Generated study content: summaries, topics, flashcards, quizzes, explanations, citations, tutor conversations, filenames, and basic document statistics.
- Technical information: information normally required to deliver and secure a web service, such as IP address, browser and device information, request times, error records, and abuse signals.
3. How do we use it?
We use this information only as reasonably necessary to:
- read your material and create the study tools you request;
- answer tutor questions and provide source references;
- save and sync generated study sets when you sign in;
- authenticate users, secure the service, and prevent abuse;
- diagnose errors and understand basic service performance; and
- meet legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use.
Depending on where you live, the legal basis may be performing the service you requested, our legitimate interest in operating it safely, your consent where required, or compliance with law.
4. What happens to an uploaded lecture?
It is read for the active request. Extracted text—and, when needed, resized page images or a short recording—is securely sent to the AI provider so it can produce the requested result. Temporary processing copies are not intentionally retained by UniSimpler after processing.
Do not upload confidential examinations, another person's personal information, medical records, financial information, or material you do not have permission to use.
5. When is information saved?
- Signed out: generated study sets may remain only in your browser's local storage until you remove them, clear browser data, or the browser removes them.
- Signed in: generated study sets are stored with your account so they can appear on your supported devices. The source file itself is not stored with the study set.
6. Service providers and international processing
UniSimpler relies on specialist providers to run the service. These may include Google Firebase for authentication, Google's Gemini services for AI processing, and OpenAI Sites and Cloudflare infrastructure for hosting, security, databases, and delivery. Their systems may process information outside your country under their applicable safeguards and service terms.
We may also disclose information if reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect users, investigate abuse, or defend legal rights. We do not sell personal information or lecture content.
7. Retention and deletion
- Original uploads are not intentionally retained after processing.
- Signed-in study sets remain available until they are removed or the account data is deleted, subject to limited security backups and legal obligations.
- Security and diagnostic records are kept only for a reasonable period needed to protect and operate the service.
To request access, correction, a copy, restriction, objection, or deletion, email unisimpler@gmail.com from the Google email connected to your account. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards, including authenticated access controls and encrypted network connections. No online service can promise perfect security, so keep your Google account secure and avoid uploading unnecessary personal information.
9. Younger users
UniSimpler is designed for university-level study and is not directed to children under 13. If local law requires parental permission for a younger user, that permission must be obtained before using the service. Contact us if you believe a child supplied personal information without appropriate permission.
10. Changes and complaints
Material changes will be posted here with a new update date. You may contact us first so we can investigate a concern. You may also complain to the data-protection authority that applies where you live.
